Data Center Inc is an idle game made by Mitch Fox. This page explains what the app collects, why, and what it does not do. The short version: the game runs on your device, it does not ask for an account, and nothing it collects can identify you.
What the game stores on your device
Your save game (the campus, the model, your settings, the company and founder names you typed) is stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes it.
Anonymous usage statistics
The app records a small set of gameplay events, such as reaching a new generation, placing a building or finishing the guided opening. These are used to see where players get stuck and to tune the first hour of the game.
- The events carry no name, email, contacts, location or device identifier that could identify you. They are tied to a random id generated when the app is first opened.
- They are sent to PostHog, an analytics service, over an encrypted connection.
- You can turn this off at any time under More, Setup, Analytics. The app stops sending events the moment the switch is off.
Advertising
The game shows rewarded video ads only when you choose to watch one, for example to finish a build early. There are no banner or interstitial ads.
- Ads are served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to show you more relevant ads.
- In the UK, the European Economic Area and some US states, Google's consent message appears before the first ad and lets you choose how your data is used for ads. You can change your answer, or opt out of the sale or sharing of your data, under More, Setup, Your privacy choices.
- On iOS the app asks for permission with the App Tracking Transparency prompt before the first ad. If you decline, ads are still available but are not personalised.
- You can change your choice at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy, Tracking.
- Google's own privacy policy applies to the ads it serves: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Optional cloud save and leaderboard
If you turn on cloud sync, the app creates an anonymous account with Supabase for your device and asks you for a nickname to show on the leaderboard. No email, password or other personal detail is asked for. Your save is stored privately; only your nickname, company name and score are visible to other players. Turning cloud sync off stops syncing, and you can sign out from More, Setup.
Deleting your cloud data. More, Setup, Cloud save, Delete cloud data deletes your anonymous account, the cloud copy of your company, your leaderboard entry and any reports linked to it, straight away. The company on your device is not touched. Deleting the app does not delete cloud data, so use that button first; if you no longer have the app, email the address below and it will be removed by hand.
Names on the leaderboard. Nicknames and company names pass a word filter before they are shown. You can tap any player on the board to report or block their name. A report sends only the reported player's anonymous id; a name reported by several players is hidden from the board and reviewed. Blocks are kept on your device.
Notifications
If you allow them, the app schedules local reminders on your device when a building, chip order or research project finishes. These are created on the device and are not sent from a server.
Children
Data Center Inc is made for everyone, children included. On first launch the game asks for your year of birth. The answer stays on your device; it is never sent anywhere, and it decides what the game does:
- Under 13: no usage statistics are sent at all. Ads are marked to Google as directed to children, are never personalised, and are limited to content rated for general audiences; the tracking prompt and consent message are not shown. On the leaderboard, a child's nickname is chosen from a list of generated names rather than typed, and the company name is not shared.
- 13 to 15: ads are never personalised, and the tracking prompt and consent message are not shown.
- Everyone: ads are limited to content rated for general audiences, and leaderboard names are filtered.
If you are a parent and believe your child has shared personal information through the game, email the address below and it will be deleted.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change and the new version will be published at the same address.
